AlaskaJoe's Tips
Find A Computer
In Windows 98, if you know the name of the computer to which you need a connection, you can use the Windows Find tool. Click Start, then Find, and select Computer. Type in the Computer's name, and click Find Now. You will need to know the Computers EXACT name, and usually convention states that a networked computer's name begins with //.

Mapping A Network Drive
Often we need to use a resource on a
network, and being able to access the information quickly is paramount.
Searching for a resource is all fine and good, but repeating this process can
quickly become arduous. To minimize this, you can actually "map" the drive, and
assign
it a drive letter on your PC.
To do this, double-click Network Neighborhood and select the computer/file you
want to frequent. Right-click the resource and select "Map Network Drive." A
screen will pop up and ask you to assign a drive letter. Many times, work groups
will have a specific drive name designated to commonly used resources, so this
should be your first choice.
After assigning the drive letter, make sure you check the "Reconnect at Login"
option, and click OK. Within Explorer, this resource will now appear as a drive.

Selecting Text
Microsoft always makes dozens of different
ways to perform even the simplest functions.
Such is the case with selecting text. Here are three ways to select text:
Click and drag the mouse over the text.
Hold the Ctrl key and move the cursor with the arrow keys.
Hold down Ctrl and press "A" to select everything.

Merging Drawings
You might have seen TV commercials where images of a
person's face are placed into a humorous background. There are VERY expensive
software tools that make this professional quality, but Windows comes with a
scaled-down version of image editing called "Paint."
A simple example might be to merge Uncle Bob's face with an image of a lion.
Save both images as BMP. Open Paint and cut Uncle Bob's face using the Cut icon
button. (The icon looks like a star.) Click Edit and Copy. Now open the lion's
picture and click Paste. Move Uncle Bob's face to its final destination. Voila,
instant funny. You may have to play with the cutting and pasting a bit to get it
right.
