Today's Guests are:
CanadanTom and H. A. "Red" Boucher
CanadanTom will be talking about the Klez Virus and how to protect and clean your computer. For info on CanadanTom's Freeloader Linux bootable CD go to http://www.softkits.com/Freeloader/
Red served in the Alaska
House of Representatives for three terms and used that time to become an
influential advocate for one of his long-time interests: the use of
telecommunications to bring Alaskans together. In the Alaska House, Red created
a Special Committee on Telecommunications that addressed a variety of
telecommunications issues, including those related to the state's telephone
systems, statewide television, computers, and information management within
state government. One of his major accomplishments was creation in 1987 of a
cabinet-level telecommunications policy body –(the Telecommunications
Information Council) within state government.
After leaving state office, Red involved himself in a variety of activities in
the 1990s, including creation of a telecommunications business, Alaska Wireless
Technology. To demonstrate how wireless technology could connect the most
isolated outposts to the Internet he set up a wireless computer network at
Toksook Bay. Tooksook Bay is a village of about 530 people on the far
southwestern coast of Alaska,

Alaska Communications Systems. He has a close relationship with the Media Lab at
MIT, www.media.MIT.edu/, which has
allowed him to Beta test such devices as a bodysuit computer and a wearable
computer.
Red said, 'from the first moment I touched a key board, I have thought of the
computer as a 'computercator,' a tool to bridge the cultural divides and
misconceptions that plague our planet. It's all about using a tool to create
economic and social opportunity for the disconnected people of Alaska and the
world. When I was Lt.Governor I was charged with seeing that satellite systems
and telephones were set up in every village in Alaska. At that time there was no
communication with rural Alaska other than mail and radio. This led to the first
visual and voice communication system in Alaska and spawned the "Learn Alaska"
TV program which was one of the pioneers in the distant delivery of education.

AlaskaJoe's Tips
Lost Mouse
If you have a Microsoft Mouse and its accompanying software, holding down the Ctrl button may assist in locating a lost mouse pointer. This only works with certain Microsoft mice and their software. I tried this on one system and it worked fine, but on another it did nothing.

Rundll32 And Other Errors
Sometimes you may get an error, such as a
Rundll32 or Msgsrv32 message, but Windows seems fine and keeps running. Don't
get too comfortable. Although nothing seems wrong, Windows is attempting to
handle the error, but it may just be a ticking time bomb just waiting to halt
your system.
Go ahead and save all your data, close your applications, and restart Windows.
It's easier than having to retype everything when Windows comes to a screeching
halt and you have two hours worth of work to redo.

Change Explorer Fonts
You can change all the fonts that appear on your desktop and in Explorer. In Windows 98, right-click on the Desktop, choose Properties, and click on the Appearance tab. Choose Icon from the list of Items, and select the desired font name and size.

Printing Made Easy!
To quickly print documents, open the Printer Window and Explorer. Click and drag files from Explorer to the printer's icon. The printer will automatically print the documents you have dragged to the printer icon.

New File
Right click the desktop and choose New from the dropdown menu. A list of file types will appear. Choose one file type, and Windows will start the application for you to create your new and spiffy file.
