Hubble Photographs

If you're at all interested in astronomy, you should visit the Hubble Space Telescope Public Pictures site. Even if you're not especially interested in astronomy, you'll probably find these pictures interesting. Some of the pictures are amazing and you'll probably find it easy to hang around the Hubble site for hours.

You may even wish to download some of the photos.

Viewing JPEG Files

If you're like many of us, you have by now quite a collection of JPEG files--digital photos, scanned photos, and downloaded pictures. There should be an easy way to view all these pictures--and there is. All you have to do is get a copy of Vallen JPegger. Vallen JPegger does JPEG, BMP, and about 38 other picture formats.

Vallen JPegger is freeware and you can get it by clicking here.

The Netscape 6 Sidebar

A reader asked how to eliminate permanently the Netscape 6 sidebar. The sidebar offers a number of useful tools, but is often in the way when you need more desk space for your web pages. What we do is simply click the small handles that appear at the right side of the sidebar. This causes the sidebar to disappear off the left side of the screen.

To restore it, you just click the same handle again.

Always On Top

We've all seen programs that offer you the option to keep its window always on top of whatever else is open. However, you may well encounter some programs that you'd like to keep on top that lack this option. This is no problem if you have a copy of Always On Top Maker from FAD Software.

This small (24 KB) freeware program will keep almost any program window on top.

You can get a copy of Always On Top Maker by clicking here.

Compressing Outlook Express Folders

Although Outlook Express 6 automatically compresses your mail folders when they reach 20 percent wasted space, you might want to compress periodically the folders manually. To do this, run Outlook Express and choose Tools|Options. When the Options dialog box opens, click the Maintenance tab.

Click Clean Up Now. When the Local File Cleanup dialog opens, click Compact. When the operation finishes, click Close. Back in Options, click Close to dismiss the dialog box.
