Our guest today is Joseph J. Lazzaro

Joe Lazzaro is a freelance writer with three computer books in print.   He has worked as a freelance professional writer since the 1980s, and has specialized in writing about technology to assist persons with disabilities. His latest book is "Adaptive Technologies for Learning and Work Environments, second edition". The book is a comprehensive guide that describes how to adapt and configure personal computers for persons with sensory, physical, and learning related disabilities.  Joe's book includes detailed explanations of numerous adaptive hardware and software systems.  It spotlights over 250 products and vendors. The book shows you how to operate Windows, Macintosh, and Unix based computer platforms. The book also describes the built-in accessibility utilities found on these computer platforms. You can order the book from the American Library Association web site: ALA .  You can also order the book or CD-ROM from the Special Needs Project Special Needs Project

Joe has been blind since the age of 15, and so has a keen interest in assistive technology, and how these systems can level the playing field and increase the independence of persons with disabilities. Along these lines, Joe is a candidate to receive an experimental artificial vision system from the Dobelle Institute later this year.

He is available for motivational speaking engagements for your group or organization.

Changing Link Icons in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6

If you use the Links bar in IE 6, you may like to change the icons to something more meaningful--or more attractive. To do this, right-click the link you want to change and choose Properties. When the dialog opens, click Change Icon. Now, click Browse and locate a suitable new icon.

We keep a special Icon folder for our collection of icons and usually choose a new icon from this folder. You'll find some free to use icons at http://www.website-designs.com/icon01.htm.

You'll find some free to use icons by clicking here.

Web Dwarf

Web Dwarf is one of the easiest HTML editors around. This program features a wysiwyg (what you see is what you get) user interface. It takes almost all the pain out of designing a web page--and it's freeware.

You can do the entire job in Web Dwarf--you can design and edit a page and then use the FTP feature to send it to your host computer.

You can get a copy of Web Dwarf by clicking here.

Buying Unusual Computer Components

If you need some uncommon computer components, look at what Crazy PC has to offer. You'll find Peltier coolers, special cabinets, special cables, and even LEDs to light up your computer's case (assuming you have already purchased a window kit). If none of this appeals to you, how about a 16 MB USB hard disk for $25.

Have you tried the round IDE cables that help you keep your computer case cool? How about a water cooling kit for your computer?

You'll find the weird and wonderful at Crazy PC.

Back where you Started in Opera 6

One feature that Opera 6 offers that other browsers don't is the ability to return immediately to the last viewed page. For example, let's say that you were looking at www.Emazing.com when you closed Opera 6. The next time you run Opera 6, it can open to www.Emazing.com--if you tell it to do so.

To get Opera to open to the last viewed page, choose File|Preferences. "Click Start and exit" and then select the radio button labeled "Continue browsing where I was last time". Click OK to continue.

Navigate to a web page and then close Opera. Run Opera again and it will open to the last page you visited.
