Letter-writing campaign
Last week Deepak encouraged a letter-writing campaign addressed to the bankruptcy court and representatives in Congress in order to keep the Ricochet system intact. Metricom's manner of presenting Ricochet for sale under bankruptcy has been less than successful. Our campaign is to request that the Debtor in Possession status needs to be removed. We wish to see that the system remains intact for a reasonable period of time. If you would like to help save the Ricochet technology by sending a letter to the Judge and your congressman asking for the

AlaskaJoe's Tips
Know Your Zones: Part 1 Of 2
Want to be a bicoastal architect or fashion model? Have a friend who does? Chances are they'll need to be jetting back and forth in a way that's dizzying for both of you! In an attempt to get a handle on what time zone they're in and when it's okay to call that person (whether at the drafting table or on the runway), you're going to want to have dual time zone functionality. In the Day/Week/Month view of Calendar, right-click in the time-of-day area and choose Change Time Zone; then select Show an additional time zone. Whether you deem them Home/Away, West/East or Left/Right, it's definitely a good idea to label your zones. And if you ever feel lost, remember this simple rule: If you look up and see skyscrapers, you're on the east coast, punk; but if you look up and see palm trees (through the smog) you're on the west coast, baby.

Know Your Zones: Part 2 Of 2
In the previous tip, we showed you how to set up two separately labeled time zones in your Calendar, presumably to know when it's safe to call friends or clients on other coasts. But if YOU'RE the one on the move, you'll want to know how to adjust your calendar day appropriately: In the Day/Week/Month view of Calendar, right-click in the time-of-day area for either zone and choose Change Time Zone; then simply click Swap Time Zones. Doing that anchors your current time zone's 8 to 5 workday and, therefore, your appointments. Assuming you've labeled your zones logically, you should always be able to keep track of where you are. The rest is a matter of car vs. subway, when to pop Melatonin, and what brand of sunglasses to wear.

Nice Save: Part 1 Of 2
You know why a computer freezing up is called a "crash"? Because after losing a message you've been composing for 20 minutes, that's the sound you're most likely to hear as you swing a large blunt object into the computer screen! You can minimize that somewhat natural, adrenaline-induced feeling by using the AutoSave feature.
In Tools| Options, click Email Options, then Advanced Email Options and click a check next to AutoSave unsent every __minutes. The default is three minutes, but you may want to make it five, since it will cut down on background activity while you're working. Also, you may want to specify your Outbox or Inbox, rather than Drafts, as the destination folder in which you'd like to save unsent items. Either way, when you finally click OK to close Advanced Email Options, you'll notice that there'll automatically be a check next to Automatically save unsent messages. Pretty automatic, huh?

Nice Save: Part 2 Of 2
As discussed in the previous tip, telling Outlook to automatically save your unsent messages can greatly reduce the stress in your life. (To find the AutoSave option, choose Tools|Options, click Email Options, then click Advanced Email Options.) Okay, so you've set AutoSave to save the email you're composing every five minutes in your Outbox. Once you finally send that email, the draft will automatically disappear. Plus, if for some reason you accidentally delete that draft before sending the message, don't worry. You can still send the email from the open message window. And finally, if you make changes to the message and press the Esc key or otherwise try to exit before it's had another chance to automatically save, you'll be prompted as to whether you want to save the changes. Assuming you click Yes, you can just leave it right there in your Outbox until you're good and ready to open it, finish composing it and send it.

Disk Cleanup
Got a full or messy disk? Within My Computers, or Explorer, right-click a drive and select Properties. In the general tab you'll find a button called Disk Cleanup. This program can assist you in getting rid of files, programs, and Internet Temporary files that clutter your hard drive.
