AlaskaJoe's Tips
Christmas Mouse
If you would like to have your mouse cursor
reflect your Holiday Spirit, then you can change that dreary white pointer to
something a bit more lively. On the Internet, as well as from many third-party
vendors, you can choose literally hundreds of mouse pointers. The links below
this tip have some great holiday pointers. Find a mouse pointer that you like
and create a folder anywhere you like and store the files there.
To set up your new pointer, go to the Mouse Icon within
your Control Panel. Open the Pointers tab and select the
Browse button. Go to the folder where you just saved that
other mouse pointer.

Holiday Screen Saver
If you just downloaded the latest cool
screen saver from
the Internet or got it from a friend and want to have it on your PC to be in the
holiday spirit, it's easy to do. First, scan the new file to make sure it has no
viruses, then place it into the \Windows\System directory with all the other *.scr
files. Now, right-click your desktop and select properties. Select the
Screensaver tab. Look into the scroll-down list for your screen saver and select
it. Preview it, and if all is well, it should work. Make sure the screen saver
is for your version of Windows, and if any associated files are needed, that you
follow the installation guides.

Folder Shortcuts
If you have folders that you use very
frequently, create a shortcut on your desktop or within a high level folder to
the lower folders for easier access. Simply right-click and drag the folder you
want to the location in which you wish to create the shortcut. Release the right
mouse mutton and choose "Create Shortcut."

Create Compressed Folder
Within Explorer, select File and New. One of
the options is "Compressed Folders." With this option you can automatically have
files compressed within a folder, saving disk space. Note: This option is
available in Windows 98, but only if you installed the Plus!98, and within
Windows Me.
